Whether on a mountain, an easy circular hike or across the winter landscape, we would like to fulfill your winter experience in small tour groups. The ski & mountain guides from Sport Schiffer accompany and organize the most beautiful snowshoe tours in the Nockberge for you. Enjoying exercise in the snow, a basic level of fitness (depending on the tour) and mountain hiking experience in summer are the prerequisites that you should bring with you.

Winter hiking in the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal region

Enjoy peace and nature. With around 30 km of winter hiking trails the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal holiday region offers many possibilities not only on the mountain but also in the valley. Whether guided snowshoe hikes or walks with a breathtaking view - the multifaceted landscape brings unique memories for the whole family.

A relaxed hike through the calm, snow-covered winter landscape at Katschberg makes the hiker's heart beat faster - even in the cold season. The 4 km long trail into the Gontal leads through the wind-protected forest to the Pritzhütte and is also suitable for prams. For those who would like to add a tobbogan run to their familiy-hike, it is the best to set off to the Gamskogelhütte. First you follow the 1.5 km long path up the mountain and then jump on the toboggan and run back to the Katschberghöhe. Of course, you could also go back on foot.

Winter hiking in the nature reserve Pöllatal
A 6 km long, beautiful winter hike in front of an impressive backdrop. Refreshments: Schoberblickhütte in the Pöllatal, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Winter hiking to the Bonnerhütte
From Frankenberg you hike about 3.5 km in Lausnitz to the Bonnerhütte, past a wonderful landscape. The hut is open daily in suitable weather conditions and access is also possible by car. The way back is ideal as a tobbogan run. Tobbogan and snowshoe rental at the Bonnerhütte.

In the middle of an idyllic landscape, surrounded by 2 nature parks, there are some hiking trails in the valley area, e.g. along the leisure path R9B towards Malta, over the Kalvarienberg in Gmünd or with snowshoes towards the Frido-Kordon-Hütte on the Sonnalm Stubeck.

In Innerkrems, three well-signposted winter hiking tours lead through the snow-covered winter landscape. Approx. 20 km of cleared hiking trails lead through the middle of the Nockberge. Panoramic paths and walking routes are signposted and well cleared.

The Salzburg Lungau offers many different winter hiking options - whether a hike up the mountain or a leisurely walk. The Sonnenhangweg on the Speiereck is suitable for prams and is located at over 2.000 m. In St. Michael you will find path no. 20 which extends to the district "Fell" (15 km there and back). The Murweg, from Muhr to Tamsweg, offers hiking fun for up to 25 km.

The Wasserweg Leisnitz hiking trail is located in St. Margarethen and is not only a highlight in summer. At the end of the trail, at the Alpengasthof Schlögelberger, you have the opportunity to watch the wild animals being fed in the afternoon.

Other winter hikes include, for example, the path from the Zederhaus square to the "Dorf" district and the Mitterberg hike with a wonderful view of the Mur valley.

Cross-country skiing in the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal region

Cross-country paradise in Upper Carinthia. The Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal holiday region in Austria convinces not only with its TOP ski area Katschberg in winter, it is also a paradise for cross-country skiers. Well prepared cross-country trails are required for an active winter holiday. Various cross-country trails are waiting in the region.

Pöllatal nature reserve
On the Carinthian side of the Katschberg in the Pöllatal in Rennweg there is an 8km long, easy classic cross-country trail. Parking lot and entry possibility: With around 8 km (there and back) of well-groomed trails, the Pöllatal nature reserve also offers cross-country skiers very good conditions in the midst of the impressive winter landscape. Accessible from Rennweg, the Pöllatal also offers kilometers of winter hiking trails. To warm up after cross-country skiing, we recommend a stop at the cozy Schoberblickhütte.

Laußnitz valley - Frankenberg
In the snow-covered mountain landscape of the Laußnitz valley you will find a perfectly groomed 5 km long cross-country ski run (classic & skating) at 1.712 m. The entrance is right at the Bonnerhütte. In addition to the cross-country ski trail, the Laußnitz valley offers many other winter activities: ice stock sport, tobogganing and winter hiking - a true paradise for winter vacationers. If you are hungry or just want to warm up - a visit to the Bonnerhütte is worthwhile.

In the beautiful Lieser-Maltatal there are two top-groomed cross-country ski runs.

  • The trail in the Maltatal from the toll station to the "Pflüglhof" bridge is approx. 1.5 km long and can be used free of charge. CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING near Gmünd (with suitable snow conditions)
  • The trail (classic) near Gmünd is approx. 3 km long and open to cross-country skiing enthusiasts when the snow conditions are suitable. It leads from the Karnerau sports field to the heating plant on the Grünleiten and can be used free of charge.

Innerkrems high-altitude trail (snow guarantee)
The easy cross-country trail in Innerkrems leads along snow-covered trees past the Andreas Church and makes a generous loop of approx. 7 km along the wide valley floor. Snow is guaranteed - because even if spring has long since dawned in the valley, the cross-country ski run in Innerkrems can still be used. Can also be used with dogs.

Schönfeld high-altitude trail (snow guaranteed)
The 8km long trail (classic & skating), not far from Innerkrems, leads over hilly terrain to the Rosaninalm and, in perfect conditions, to the Rosaninsee, access to Dr. Josef Mehrl Hut, Rosanin turn-off.

The Salzburger Lungau is a UNESCO Biosphere reserve and provides numerous high altitude cross-country trails as well as the 31 km long Murtal trail (classic and skating). The entrance points are in Stranach (St. Michael in Lungau) or directly from the ski resort Katschberg in the valley location St. Margarethen.

Ski touring in Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal

Explore the snowy landscape in Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal - away from the pistes! Whether you are a beginner or a pro, there are several ways to discover the region on touring skis.

For safety reasons, there is a general ban on ski touring during lift operation on the slopes in the ski area Katschberg! But there are also wonderful ski touring routes in the region away from the pistes, such as on the Tschaneck or for real mountain enthusiasts on the Kareck at 2.481 m!

In the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal region there are also guided ski tours at Katschberg and in Innerkrems. The activity program of the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal region gives you the opportunity to climb the peaks off-piste with an experienced tour guide.

Ski tour Aineck

A path in St. Margarethen im Lungau leads along the Leisnitz torrent to the Kösselbacheralm and Banntweineralm ski huts. After about 2 hours of ascent, you can relax in the huts at Aineck and then tackle the descent back down to the valley on the piste, well strengthened.

Ski touring ban Katschberg ski area - piste closure

With immediate effect, going uphill (on skis, touring skis and snowshoes) is prohibited all day long in the entire ski area Katschberg, i.e. between 12:00am and 12:00 am! This ban applies to the period from 01.11. until 01.05. every year and serves to avert danger - danger to life due to cable winch slope preparation with snow groomers, avoidance of collisions with winter sports enthusiasts driving down the valley. We will report any infringement and sue for injunctive relief.

We refer to the traffic safety obligation and to a disturbance of possession. According to the regulation of the ski slope closure for the Katschberg / Aineck ski area, number: 47/2015 (basis regulation, number 839/2007)

Ice climbing in Maltatal

Where ice-climbing is concerned, the Maltatal has developed into a top class area. It stands out above all for its versatility. Whether one is a beginner or an expert, everyone will find an appropriate level here. What is more, most of the waterfalls are easy to reach and safe from avalanches in normal snow conditions.
