The nature reserve Pöllatal
Hiking adventures for the whole family & starting point for summit ascents
The Pöllatal nature reserve extends in Rennweg in the Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal holiday region in Upper Carinthia. It is the perfect destination for your summer vacation with children. A six-kilometre-long path suitable for children leads through the valley, next to which the Lieser mountain stream runs. Rustic alpine huts, a barbecue area with a place to rest and a new playground, an arsenic show hut, numerous stream entrances and an adventurous climbing rock guarantee the perfect day trip for the whole family. A real highlight is the stream adventure trail, which leads through the forest along the Lieser and brings children closer to nature with display boards.
Incidentally, the nature reserve was set up in 1973, it is by far the largest in Carinthia (with 3168 hectares) and since 2009 the region around the core zone of the Inner Pöllatal has even had the status of a European protected area.
The Pöllatal can be reached by car to P1/barbecue area and further through the valley by walking, by bike or by the electric choo-choo train.
Water adventure & alpine huts
Moreover, the stream adventure path, a flat hiking path, offers a great nature experience for adults and kids. Guided by presentation boards, kids of all ages may explore the nature, enjoy the crystal clear water and resolve plenty of riddles. The Schoberblickhütte and the Kochlöffelhütte, offering traditional specialties of Carinthia, pet zoos and playgrounds, are recommended for a short stop during your family hiking day.
